Czech Philharmonic

Über uns

The Czech Philharmonic, a musical body with a venerable tradition, is the most important symphony orchestra in the Czech Republic. Ever since its founding, its conductors and leading orchestral musicians have featured many leading artists who have helped to give the orchestra its great esteem at home and abroad. The orchestra’s history is characterized by two themes: promoting the music of Czech composers and a conviction that music can change people’s lives.

The Czech Philharmonic gave its first concert on 4 January 1896 at the Rudolfinum with Antonín Dvořák conducting a program of his works. Today, the orchestra is recognized not just for its canonical interpretations of works by Czech composers but also for its strong relationship to and unique renditions of pieces by the most important composers of world history.

Beginning with the 2018/2019, Semyon Bychkov became the chief conductor and music director of the Czech Philharmonic, and the chief guest conductors are Jakub Hrůša and Tomáš Netopil.
