Association Française des Orchestres

About us

The French Association for Orchestras (AFO) is the professional organisation for orchestras in France, founded in the year 2000.

Created on the initiative of permanent orchestras, with the support of the DGCA (General directorate of artistic creation— which is managed by the Ministry of Culture) , the AFO's mission is to promote and enhance the value of heritage and creative music and its performers as part of the public utility of culture, in the general interest.

As an observatory for the profession, a training organization and a representative body, the AFO accompanies and federates a large network of stakeholders - including its 41 members - around issues of primary importance to the profession.

As the voice of the profession, it contributes to the definition of a cultural policy for symphonic music in France and in Europe.
