About us

The Dutch Ballet Orchestra is proud to be the dance orchestra of the Netherlands. Accompanying both the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam and the Netherlands Dance Theater in The Hague, the Dutch Ballet Orchestra reaches an audience of 120,000 people in over 100 performances per season. The orchestra also performs a wide variety of concerts and educational programs in the Amsterdam area. In keeping with the orchestra's mission: to reach an optimal synthesis between music and dance, all orchestra performances and activities have a direct link to dance. The Dutch Ballet’s ambition is to become the best ballet orchestra in the world. Chief conductor since 2013, Matthew Rowe also serves as Musical Director of the National Ballet. The Dutch Ballet Orchestra consists of 45 musicians supplemented by freelance players. The orchestra's management and staff are comprised of: director, planning coordinator, orchestra manager and assistant orchestra manager, librarian and stage manager.
