    The 1st International Ferenc Fricsay Conducting Competition (IFFCC) will be held from 3rd to 10th of September, 2023 in the Korzó Music Hall in the beautiful Hungarian city of Szeged, with the Hungarian National Symphony Orchestra Szeged.

    The competition is open to applicants OF ALL NATIONALITIES WITHOUT AGE LIMITS.

    ALL 4 ROUNDS OF THE COMPETITION WILL BE WITH THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA SZEGED.


    STAGES

    ELIMINATION PHASE

    Evaluation of videos and CVs submitted by the applicants by the jury. All applicants are required to submit 2 videos.

    ALL applications (along with CVs and videos) must be submitted via the MUVAC platform.

    APPLICATION FEE: 110 EUR.

    The DEADLINE for applications is June 20, 2023.


    LIVE PHASE

    FOUR competition rounds in Szeged (3rd - 10th of September, 2023).

    All participants advancing to the LIVE PHASE (1st round) will be published on all web sources of the IFFCC on the 1st of JULY, 2023.

    They will be asked to pay the PARTICIPATION FEE in the amount of 400 EUR. The bank details (along with further payment options) will be provided to all participants advancing to the LIVE PHASE (1st round) on the 1st of JULY, 2023.

    During the LIVE PHASE, the participants will conduct the Hungarian National Symphony Orchestra Szeged in front of the jury.

    2 orchestra sessions: 10:00 - 13:00 & 19:00 - 22:00.

    Podium time per participant: 20 minutes.


    THIRD ROUND (SEMI FINAL)

    2 orchestra sessions: 09:00 - 11:30 & 12:30 - 15:00.

    Podium time per participant: 32 minutes (incl. orchestra rehearsal).


    FOURTH ROUND (FINAL)

    September 10th, 2023 (Korzó Music Hall, Szeged)

    Orchestra session: 09:00 - 11:30; announcement of winners: 23:00.

    Number of participants: 4.

    Podium time per participant: 40 minutes (incl. orchestra rehearsal).

  • Optional pieces

    The choice of repertoire is FREE. There are NO mandatory pieces.

    When applying, all applicants will be required to choose ONE piece for every round from the list below depending on the podium time provided for every participant (please refer to "PODIUM TIME PER PARTICIPANT").

    The usage of the podium time is up to you (you can use your minutes in the same way as at conducting workshops / master classes):

    1) you can rehearse and perform the piece, 2) you can perform one piece and then rehearse this (and rehearse some other piece, for example an overture), 3) you can perform one piece after another.

    For example, if you have 16 minutes but your main piece lasts only 8 minutes, you can rehearse or perform this repeatedly or use the rest for other pieces.

    2 videos (not more please) will be judged by the jury committee during the ELIMINATION PHASE to outline applicants advancing to the LIVE PHASE (1st round) of the competition.

    The videos of all applicants MUST

    • be playable in streaming mode and be downloadable (links to YouTube and Vimeo fit perfectly)
    • be at least 5 minutes long
    • include performances of musical pieces from ANY historical period (both instrumental and vocal ensembles are acceptable)

    • 2 movements / parts of the same piece are ALLOWED
    • recordings with piano (both rehearsals and concerts) are ALLOWED
    • 2 recordings of the same piece are ALLOWED.
