The Villars Music Academy invites talented young musicians to take part in a unique and personalized learning experience based on masterclasses taught by leading soloists and musicians from the Berliner Philharmoniker, as well as interdisciplinary courses. Chamber music with the professors, mental training, physical coaching, and open discussions with special guests are key facets of the program

Created in 2022 by Aline Champion in collaboration with the Villars Institute Foundation, the Villars Music Academy invites talented young musicians to a one- week intensive musical and personal experience. Next to masterclasses given by leading soloists and members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Villars Music Academy also features conferences and workshops designed through a holistic approach to promote personal development as well as shared values for tomorrow’s world. The stunning surroundings of Villars-sur-Ollon, a beautiful village in the Swiss Alps, provides a perfect place for inspiration.

Week program:
• Masterclasses with leading soloists (2-3 individual lessons for each participant)
• Masterclasses with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker (2-3 individual lessons for each participant)
• Chamber music with the professors (5-6 sessions)
• Mental training (daily)
• Physical coaching (daily)
• Talks with special guests
• Concert at the Theater of the Villars Palace

We are looking for the following musicians:
• 14 violinists
• 8 violists
• 8 cellists

Chamber music and concert
Each participant will play in a chamber music formation with a professor. The program will be announced in July. A closing concert will take place at the Theater of the Villars Palace on Saturday, 19.08.2023.

CD Award – Balik Prize:
This year will be the inauguration of the Balik Award, generously offered by Caviar House & Prunier. The Academists may choose to participate in an internal competition, and a student demonstrating outstanding musical prowess will be selected by a jury of professors and given the opportunity to get a free CD production.

The Villars Institute Foundation covers all lessons, accommodations and meals throughout the weeklong Academy to all selected students. Students must cover their travel expenses.
Applicants should be over 18 and still students, without a permanent job.
Students having participated in previous editions can reapply for the coming edition.

Practical informations:
Arrival in Villars-sur-Ollon: Sunday, 13.08.2023 until 5 pm
Departure from Villars-sur-Ollon: Sunday, 20.08.2023 after 12 am
Please arrive before 5 pm, so you can take part in any lessons or rehearsals taking place that evening.
Villars-sur-Ollon is located at 90 km from Geneva, Switzerland. The closest airports are Geneva or Zürich (250 km).
Public transportation (bus & train) is encouraged to reduce our carbon footprint. Timetables can be found online:
The closest bus & train station to the venue is called “Villars-sur-Ollon, hotels”. To travel to Villars by public transportation, you can arrive in Aigle by train then transit to Villars via Bus 144.
Lessons will take place at the Villars Palace and the Victoria Hotel, both part of the Villars Alpine Resort.

Information and applications:
To apply to become a student of the Villars Music Academy 2023, please fill out your application before the March 31, 2023.
Students will be selected by the professors and members of the Berliner Philharmoniker and informed of the result by 30th of April 2023.
