In cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), the federal state of Tyrol is organizing an international wind instrument competition - the "Werner Pirchner Prize". The competition is intended to offer students and professional musicians up to the age of 30 an international platform to present themselves artistically and to be able to compare on an international level.
The competition takes place from mid-June with the first round (video submission online) to the beginning of October with live performances in the second and third rounds in the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium and the Haus der Musik in Innsbruck. Accompanying the competition, masterclasses are held by the jury members.
The competition is under the artistic direction of the head of the mdw Leonard Bernstein Institute for wind and percussion instruments, Prof.in Dr. Barbara Strack-Hanisch, and the head of the institute for the diploma studies of the Tyrolean State Conservatory, Prof. Erich Rinner.
The categories for 2022 are:
