    About the position

Oslo Philharmonic with chief conductor Klaus Mäkelä is searching for a co-principal double bass and are inviting highly qualified candidates to express their interest.

The co-principal bass shares the role with the principal bass, both serving on 1st and 2nd chairs. The successful candidate needs to be a strong leader as well as a solid team player.

We are looking for a dedicated orchestra musician who would like to invest and take an active part in our orchestra's inner life and our continued artistic development.

We would like to invite qualified candidates to express their interest by sending this application. This vacancy does not yet have a specified audition date or a set application deadline as we will review applications on an ongoing basis.

The choice to present yourself artistically in addition to the resumé is optional, but candidates are encouraged to provide recent video material they feel are representative of them as musicians in a professional orchestra, chamber or recital setting.

Should no such professional material exist, you may record an audition video with the material specified below.

We are tentatively planning an audition in late 2023. However, our goal in this process is to get to know our candidates well, preferably by guest appearing informally in the orchestra, before deciding who to invite to audition. Seriously interested candidates should therefore have their applications in as soon as possible.

Our jury will review every application individually. Whether individual merits will suffice for an invitation can therefore not be evaluated before an actual application is made.

    An application may result in

    • An invitation to guest the orchestra informally
    • A request for more/other material the jury deems necessary
    • An invitation to pre-audition(s)
    • A rejection

    What we can offer

The successful candidate will be loaned a suitable instrument from the orchestra.

Current annual salary (depending on seniority) in NOK: 714 047 - 771 580.

The Oslo Philharmonic is committed to diversity, equality, and inclusion in our orchestra and in all aspects of our organisation. We encourage musicians of all backgrounds and identities to apply for this position.
