The Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich AG and Music Director Paavo Järvi have initiated the Conductors' Academy as a platform for promising, talented young conductors. The first edition took place in May 2021 and the second one in April 2022. The goal is to use all potentials and create a distinctive offer that takes into account the music business in the 21st century.
The candidates who actively participate can expect more than just lessons and performances in front of an audience. Two things are essential at the Conductors' Academy: on the one hand, the involvement of the audience, who selects one person at the final concert. The winner travels to the next renowned master class of the Järvi family in Pärnu, Estonia. On the other hand, it is also important for the young conductors to intensively deal with our music business during the Conductors' Academy, i.e. with the management and general conditions of a concert hall and a top orchestra. We offer a "cultural management study" in fast motion.
The Academy therefore consists of two parts: One part includes the cultural management crash course and the second the conducting classes with the orchestra and Paavo Järvi. The master classes and the concert on November 18, 2022 will be live streamed.
Our goal is to find one or two exceptional conductors during the Conductors' Academy, who we would like to see again and who deserve further support. The combination of the Zürich Conductors' Academy with the Järvi Academy in Pärnu as part of the Pärnu Festival with the Estonian Festival Orchestra in the summer 2023 offers excellent conditions for the participants.
