    The international singing competition for baroque opera Pietro Antonio Cesti was founded in 2010 by Alessandro De Marchi. Named after the Italian composer Pietro Antonio Cesti, who made Innsbruck a center of Italian opera north of the Alps in the mid-17th century, the competition is aimed at young singers from all over the world with a special talent and training for the baroque opera genre. The Cesti Competition is now one of the most important singing competitions in this field.

    Prizes include engagements at renowned opera houses as well as cash prizes chosen by the jury and the audience.

    PRIOR TO YOUR APPLICATION - Please download the competition rules and the list of the obligatory arias below ("Documents") and read them carefully!

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Age limit: women and men born in 1990 or later.

    Please note that in case of no fullmillment of all requirements the registration fee cannot be refunded.

    In order to apply, complete your muvac profile with the following data and documents:

    • upload a scan of ID or passport
    • upload 1 recent color portrait photo in high resolution

    Under media:

    • add 1 application video or audio (preferably baroque opera)

    In order to be permitted to the competition, each candidate has to send a biography and the scores of the arias for the 1st and 2nd round until 20 days before the registration.

    Please submit the biography directly on muvac when confirming your participation and send the scores via email to cesti@altemusik.at. Please send us scores which are readable (no Faksimiles etc., in pdf-format) and each aria summarized in one document and not page by page.

  • Oeuvres imposées

    Three arias/scenes from operas by the following composers are to be prepared for the first two rounds:

    • a= 440 hz: Claudio Monteverdi, Pietro Antonio Cesti, Francesco Cavalli, Antonio Sartorio
    • a = 415 hz: Henry Purcell, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Adolph Hasse, Georg Friedrich Händel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Nicola Antonio Porpora, Antonio Caldara, Leonardo Vinci , Alessandro Scarlatti, Giovanni Buononcini

    Please note that the arias of the second round must be sung in the order indicated in the application.

    In the final, one aria from Georg Friedrich Händel’s “Arianna in Creta” and a further obligatory aria from the competition list are to be presented (download the repertoire list below - "Documents"). The pieces have to be sung in their original language, from memory, and in their original key.

    After completing the registration, the scores for the obligatory arias can be downloaded under "Documents". 

    Changes in the registered competition program and the order of the arias are possible until 31.07.2023.
