Hyejun Melania Kwon, a talented mezzo-soprano,
will begin her role as a part-time ensemble
member at the Aalto Theater in Essen in 2025.
She gained significant professional experience as
a member of the Opernstudio NRW from 2022 to
2024, where she further developed her artistic
skills and established important connections in
the opera world.
Her notable past performances include Dorabella
in Mozart's "Così fan tutte" at Ewha University
and Valencienne in Lehár's "The Merry Widow,"
Flora in Verdi's "La Traviata," as well as Valletto
and Fortuna in Monteverdi's "L’incoronazione di
Poppea" at the Wuppertal Opera. She has
portrayed Venus in Offenbach's "Orpheus in the
Underworld" at the Theater Dortmund, Mother
Goose in Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress" at
the Verbier Festival, and also La Ciesca in
Puccini's "Il Trittico" and Laura in Tchaikovsky's
"Iolanta" at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen. Additionally, she performed the role
of Hänsel in Humperdinck's "Hänsel and Gretel" with the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen.
Currently, she is performing the role of the Third Lady in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the
Aalto Theater in Essen.In the future, Melania Kwon will also appear as the Flower Maiden,
Second Page, and Voice from Above in Wagner's "Parsifal," as well as Lovis in the opera
"Ronja Räubertochter" at the Aalto Theater.
